Mekong River Cruises

The mighty Mekong River is one of Asia’s most exciting and enigmatic rivers and there are a couple of luxury cruise boats that offer a fascinating week long cruise from Tonle Sap Lake down to My Tho in Vietnam, which lies in the heart of the huge, fertile region known as the Mekong Delta.

Why visit Mekong River Cruises ?

  • See the vibrant local life along Mekong River banks
  • Learn the local culture and traditions in the local villages
  • Sail through the picturesque Cambodian Countryside
  • Keep an eye out for sightings of the endangered ‘Irrawaddy Dolphin’

The delta is where the river splits into nine smaller rivers and innumerable streams and is often referred to as the ‘rice bowl’ of Vietnam. This is one of the most agriculturally productive areas in Southeast Asia, growing enough rice in its lush green paddy fields to feed the whole of Vietnam.

Lazy days can be spent watching the world go by as you cruise downstream with daily land-based excursions visiting floating markets, canals, stilted villages, catfish farms, fruit farms and the delightful palaces and pagodas of Phnom Penh.

A luxury cruise is a wonderful way to witness some of the great highlights of the region not only at a gentle pace, but also whilst enjoying all the comforts of a thoroughly comfortable boat.

It is also possible to experience the cruise starting in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam and travelling upstream into Cambodia and finishing in Tonle Sap Lake.
