Bolivia

Bolivia is a country of superlatives. It boasts the highest capital city, the highest town, the highest ski resort and the largest salt lake in the world to name but a few and this small landlocked country is defined in part by its altitude, which with its stunning scenery can take your breath away in every sense!

Witches market & cable cars of La Paz

Lapaz2

Not only is La Paz the world’s highest capital city, it is also one of the most intriguing!  Set beneath the watchful eye of the snow-capped Mount Illimani, this colourful and vibrant city is full of pretty colonial plazas, gorgeous Baroque churches and steep streets lined with indigenous Aymara women selling an extraordinary variety of things. But nothing is more bizarre than the Witches Market, which is run by witch doctors and devoted to the sale of medicinal lotions, potions and bizarre objects such as dried frogs and llama fetuses. And to gently ‘fly’ over the city in the new cable car offering a bird’s eye view is a real highlight.

Explore the Uyuni salt pans by Airstream Camper

island9

Standing at 3650m high, the Salar de Uyuni is not only the largest, but also the highest salt lake in the world offering some of the most extreme and dramatic scenery in the world. From Giant cacti to huge volcanoes and shimmering green and red soda lakes which are home to large flocks of flamingos, this is a bizarre, beautiful and ‘other worldly’ location. To explore this region is a real Bolivian highlight, but to enhance the experience even further then why not stay in a sleek, silver Airstream camper with your own camping crew looking after you and giving you the mobility to really get beneath the skin of this truly unique place.

The dry season from April to October is generally considered the best time to visit Bolivia with little rain and often clear blue skies, however it can be cold especially at night due to the altitude.  November to March is typically the rainy season so travel can sometimes be disrupted, but it’s still possible to visit at this time.
