Location: In the village of Tiradentes, overlooking the Sao Jose mountains, East Brazil.

Rooms: 18 apartments.

Facilities: Breakfast and afternoon tea, free WiFi, swimming pool, sauna.

Activities: Hiking, mountain biking, visiting local villages and fazenda plantations.

Children: Children older than 8 are welcome.

Our Opinion: Established in 1972, this charming restored colonial house was the first pousada in Tiradentes. It offers luxurious accommodation with traditional decor, an outdoor swimming pool, sauna, bar and lovely dining area where breakfast and afternoon tea are served. There is no lunch or dinner service although there are many restaurants nearby. Great location in the centre of Tiradentes run by owners who are passionate and known for their hospitality.

Highlights included white water rafting, zip wires, releasing new-born turtles into the sea, being in a boat amongst 200 dolphins, riding on beaches...
