Samburu

The Uaso Nyiro River is the lifeblood of the Samburu National Reserve and its adjoining neighbours, Buffalo Springs and Shaba, offering an oasis for wildlife amidst the wild, arid lands to the north of Mount Kenya.

Why visit Samburu ?

  • Wild, rugged, remote Kenya at its most exciting
  • Excellent game viewing including lesser seen northern species
  • Close up elephant encounters along the Ewaso Nyiro River
  • Fascinating game & cultural walks with local Samburu guides

Smooth, rounded kopjes and the rich riverine environment of wavering doum palms offer the perfect habitat for reticulated giraffe, crocodile, elephant and Grevy’s zebra, as well as significant numbers of leopard and lion. Birdlife is also prolific with immense flocks of Helmeted and Vulterine Guineafowl making their way to the river bank to drink each afternoon.

Being a little more remote than other parks, a flying safari incorporating Samburu will take you away from the crowds and into the rugged splendour of a land which is very different from the highlands and savannah plains in the south of the country.
