Reached from Marrakech by a dramatic 5 hours road journey over the famous Tizi n’Test Pass through the heart of the Atlas Mountains or a 1 hour’s drive from Agadir, Taroudant is an ancient and majestic Berber town resplendent with traditional red ochre city walls and dramatic ramparts, which house the kasbah and bustling souks.
- Scenic town situated between the Atlas Mountains & desert
- Authentic Moroccan atmosphere with relatively few tourists
- Enjoy a ride by horse drawn carriage around the city walls
- Sip mint tea on a tree-lined square watching the world go by
Being at the head of the Souss Valley, Taroudant has always been an important regional stronghold of commercial and political importance, no more so than in the 16th Century when the Saadians made it their capital.
A tour of the city’s ramparts can be made either by bicycle or on foot, whilst the two souks are varied and authentic, offering goods such as rugs and jewellery of excellent quality. The leather tanneries also make a fascinating diversion.
