Location: Set on the bank of the Essequibo River, Iwokrama River Lodge is in the heart of the one million acre Iwokrama Forest.

Facilities: Restaurant, bar.

Activities: Canopy walkway, jaguar spotting, birdwatching, rainforest trails, canoeing, fishing.

Children: Children are welcome.

Our Opinion: Surrounded by tropical rainforest, the Iwokrama River Lodge offers spacious private cabins overlooking the river. Each cabin is simple, but comfortable and an ideal base for exploring the surrounding forest and the incredible wildlife.

Highlights included white water rafting, zip wires, releasing new-born turtles into the sea, being in a boat amongst 200 dolphins, riding on beaches... Children and parents ticked off many from our “must do things in our lives” list. In terms of lodges, would rank Pacuare and Lapa Rios equal first.
