Location: Dating back to 1853, Schoone Oordt Country House is a beautiful Victorian homestead that rests elegantly on a rise behind a small park at the junction of Swellengrebel and Voortrek Streets, the major arteries running through the Overberg town of Swellendam.
Rooms: 10 rooms including a romantic Honeymoon Suite, family accommodation in the restored Coach House and spacious Luxury Rooms.
Facilities: Restaurant, bar, swimming pool, spa. A large salt water pool is surrounded by comfortable loungers – perfect for sun worshippers or a nap in the shade of an umbrella. Breakfasts are extensive, delicious and served in the new sunny conservatory overlooking the lawn and gardens. Lunches and dinners can be provided by prior arrangement.
Activities: Wine tours, horse riding, cycling, golf.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome.
Our Opinion: Schoone Oordt is acharming country hotel situated in a private spot near the edge of a forest and the Koornlands River. After Cape Town and Stellenbosch, Swellendam was the third settlement to be founded in South Africa by the Dutch East India Company.
