Location: Situated within a beautiful private reserve between Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara known as the Burunge Wildlife Management Area.
Rooms: The 10 suites are widely spaced for maximum privacy and boast stunning lake views. Every room boasts a luxury bathroom with indoor & outdoor showers, a reading corner, dressing room and private patio complete with a comfortable day bed.
Facilities: The permanent structure of the lodge’s main house reflects the form of a flamingo with its wings spread wide for landing. One wing holds the gourmet restaurant and an outside log fire, whilst the other wing offers a bar, lounge, indoor fireplace and library.
There is also a viewing deck overlooking Lake Manyara, as well as a swimming pool where you can cool off in the midday sun and a spa offering relaxing massage treatments.
Activities: Game drives in Tarangire National Park, guided walks on the Chem Chem Reserve, bush picnics & sundowners & local Maasai village visits.
Children: Children over the age of 6 are welcome.
Our Opinion: Chem Chem offers one of the most exclusive safari experiences in northern Tanzania. The concept of a slow safari was born at Chem Chem out of a deep passion for the African bush. In essence, a slow safari allows you to experience Africa at its most raw – slowing down to appreciate, stopping to explore, staying longer to discover and ultimately realising that by relaxing one can find the heart. Whether walking, exploring or relaxing at the lodge, this extraordinary location offers captivating panoramic views of the Rift Valley’s eastern escarpment and Lake Burunge to the south, and also towards the immense wilderness of Tarangire National Park – all showcasing the immense ancient baobab trees for which Tarangire is famous.
