Our Opinion: Hemingways Watamu is a recently refurbished luxury hotel situated on one of Kenya’s finest beaches. Owing to its location on the edge of a marine park the snorkelling off the beach is excellent, and it is also possible to enjoy scuba diving along the reef a short distance away by boat. All the very attractively furnished rooms have mosquito nets and air conditioning which is a big plus at the coast. There is a lovely large swimming pool, a great spa, floodlit tennis court and a good range of non-motorised watersports. The bar is a very sociable, atmospheric place for a cold beer in the evenings and the hotel’s cuisine is first class. Not far from the hotel are the Gedi ruins and forests for hiking & bird watching.
