Location: Perched on top of a dune plateau, overlooking panoramic vistas in all directions, in the heart of the NamibRand Nature Reserve.
Rooms: 9 spacious chalets, each with an en suite bathroom and private verandah, which connects you to vast stretches of untouched sand. Sleeping with your canvas blinds open is just like sleeping under the stars.
Facilities: The main areas of the lodge consist of two lounges, a number of sundowner decks, fireplace, tea deck, library, wine cellar and two dining rooms. The lodge also has a swimming pool, which is suspended above the sand. All communal areas of the lodge open out onto decks with superb views.
Activities: Game drives, guided walks, hot air balloon safaris, village tours, photography, horse riding. The informative scenic drives in open Land Rovers reveal the wonders of the wilderness. Picnic lunches and sundowners in the dunes are often enjoyed.
Children: Children over the age of 12 are welcome.
Our Opinion: Wolwedans is the perfect base from which to explore the splendour of the desert. This area was once the hunting ground of the spotted hyena and Wolwedans takes its name from the local dialect of ‘where the wolves dance’. Nestled amongst the dunes of the NamibRand Nature Reserve, which covers some 200,000 hectares, Wolwedans allows you to experience a diverse canvas of contrasting landscapes which are home to a variety of large and small creatures including gemsbok, zebra, springbok, kudu, baboon, leopard and more than 100 species of birds.
