Anguilla Holidays
One of the most northerly of the Leeward Islands, Anguilla, which remains a British Overseas Territory, comprises a small main island and several surrounding islets.
Why visit ANGUILLA?
- Go scuba diving with nurse sharks and barracuda at Prickly Pear Cay
- Take a step back in time at Wallblake House, the island’s oldest building
- Let your feet sink into the powdery sand of the stunning Shoal Bay beach
- Test your handicap on the pristine greens of the CusininArt 18 hole golf course
- Tuck into a mouth-watering crayfish bisque at one of Sandy Ground’s restaurants
It boasts an interesting history having been first colonised by the British in the 1650’s only for France to take control and then eventually the British took back control and turned it into a thriving plantation economy with rum, sugar and cotton amongst the key staples. Much of that agriculture dwindled away and today Anguilla is best known for its gin-clear waters, delightfully laid-back pace of life and its many glorious beaches, some of which are arguably considered some of the finest in the whole of the Caribbean.
The island is also fast becoming a foodie hotspot with a surprising number of excellent restaurants dotted around. Drawing influences from around the region, cooking is taken seriously here and visitors can enjoy anything from jerk style barbeque ribs to Callalloo, a delicious local stew or Conch fritters to a tasty Johnny cake. And being a watersports paradise, there’s always plenty of ways to work off all those tasty meals.
