Location: Overlooking a busy waterhole at the foot of a dolomite hill in the private 30,000 hectares Ongava Game Reserve which shares a common border with Etosha National Park.
Rooms: The classic safari style camp has eight large comfortable Meru-style tents, all with en suite bathroom facilities, open air showers and private verandahs.
Facilities: The main camp area, built of stone, canvas and thatch, fronts onto a busy waterhole frequented by wildlife. There is a swimming pool for refreshing dips in the heat of the day.
Activities: Bird watching, game drives, game viewing, nature walks, rhino approaching.
Children: 3-5 years: Booking can only be accepted if sole use of camp is booked and paid for. 6-12 years: Private Vehicle must be booked and paid for. The minimum age for walking activities is 13 years; and 16 years old for rhino approaching on foot.
Our Opinion: A superb camp situated on a private reserve which offers the full Etosha experience and allows for the opportunity to enjoy night drives and nature walks (which are forbidden in the National Park), in addition to daylight game drives on both the reserve and in the park. Other possibilities include guided walks, birding and visiting hides. Ongava holds one of the largest rhino custodianships for the Namibian government in the country and is one of the few private game reserves in southern Africa where guests can see both black and white rhino.
