Lusaka lies at the junction of the main highways to the north, east, south and west, and at an altitude of approximately 1,300 meters above sea level. Away from the tree-lined avenues of the smart Government area, the city’s markets are a hive of activity as thousands of stalls are set up every day: a myriad of motor spares dealers, restaurants, hairdressers, fishmongers, fruit sellers and rows and rows of “salaula” – stalls of discarded clothing from the West sold to Africa by the bale. There are air links to the key Zambian national parks from Lusaka airport.
