Location: Kinasi is a small, private lodge situated in a coconut and cashew plantation facing Chole Bay on Mafia Island. The lodge faces south-eastwards and enjoys wonderful views of the Mafia Island Marine Park towards the neighbouring islets of Chole, Juani and Jibondo.
Rooms: 14 guest cottages dotted around the gardens, ensuring a peaceful and intimate atmosphere. All the thatched cottages are spacious and attractively furnished with en suite bathrooms, ceiling fan and a verandah with hammock and chairs…the perfect place for an afternoon siesta. The rooms have all been subtly designed to ensure they remain cool during the heat of the day.
Facilities: The cuisine is a blend of European and Eastern with an inevitable emphasis on the deliciously fresh seafood caught every morning around the island. There is a large swimming pool and an attractively designed spa with professional therapists.
Activities: Activities at the lodge include a fully equipped PADI dive centre catering for qualified and novice divers alike, windsurfing & kayaking. The lodge also offers boat excursions in Chole Bay and to nearby reefs , seasonal whale shark & turtle viewing, deep sea fishing, island road excursions, cycling & bird watching trips.
Children: All ages are welcome.
Our Opinion: The atmosphere at Kinasi is very relaxed: a laid back, Swahili style reteat which feels a million miles away from the more commercialised areas of the coast . Mafia is little visited and makes an ideal destination for some superb diving and escaping the crowds.
