The Iguazu River which divides Argentina from Brazil flows over a basalt plateau and then splits into many channels and islands before plunging in a series of dramatic falls, swirling cauldrons of spray and cascades such as the gargantuan Devils’ Throat.
The falls can be seen from both the Argentinean and Brazilian sides of the border and this is perfectly possible in the same day and highly recommended as it offers two quite different perspectives of this extraordinary natural spectacle. There are viewing areas you can walk to and it is also possible to enjoy boat trips up close and personal to the falls or even do helicopter flips over the falls.
The Interior Atlantic Rainforest covers 270,000 hectares of beautiful protected forest and this straddles the border and is thus split into the Argentinean and Brazilian Iguazu National Parks. This sub-tropical rainforest is home to over 2000 plant species, countless insect species and 400 bird species including the colourful toucan, parrots and parakeets. There is also a wide variety of mammals and other animals including the tapir, capybara, coati and the rarely seen puma and jaguar.
