Location: Between Tulum and Playa del Carmen in Mexico.

Our Opinion: Originally built as the private home of an Italian duchess, Hotel Esencia is a 50 acre estate on the beautiful beach of the Mayan Riviera. Situated in the bay of Xpu-Ha, it offers 2 swimming pools, spa, 3 restaurants, 38 suites and 3 villas. Far from busy resorts, Esencia is a fantastic boutique hotel with friendly service.

Highlights included white water rafting, zip wires, releasing new-born turtles into the sea, being in a boat amongst 200 dolphins, riding on beaches...
