Oman

Oman is one of the most beautiful countries in the Middle East. Blessed with a rich cultural heritage, breathtaking natural beauty and a 5000 year old civilization that coexists comfortably with modern development, Oman is a country still appealingly untrodden.

Ranging from the golden dunes of the Wahiba Sands to the lush green hills of the Dhofar and from the spectacular Hajar Mountains to the colourful village souks laden with dates and frankincense, this country has so much to offer. It is also famed for its wonderful ancient forts and castles that creak with fascinating historical treasures and a wealth of unspoiled beaches on which to enjoy some well earned rest after a few days of fascinating exploration.

Sand Boarding in the dunes

Wahiba Sands, Oman

For those with a bit of a need for speed, then a real highlight in the desert is to head out into the steep dunes of the Wahiba Sands and try your luck at some sand boarding.

If you’re staying at one of the desert camps such as Desert Nights Camp, then they will take you off in a 4×4 vehicle and drive you up to the top of the dunes where you jump on the board and fly down the rolling sandy peaks – easy really and hugely entertaining !

Paragliding into Zighy Bay

Zighy Bay, Oman

Why arrive at your hotel the traditional way by car when you could arrive in real style !

At Six Senses Zighy Bay you can paraglide from the top of Zighy Mountain with a professional paraglider who will take you around the edge of the mountain range, where you can explore the stunning bay and surrounding area from a height of 960 feet (293 meters). You will enjoy not only the magnificent birds eye views, but also experience a seriously exciting way to arrive at your beach paradise.

October to April is generally considered to be the best time to travel to Oman when the weather should be excellent most of the time. It starts to get very hot in May and remains so until September.

However from July to September there is the Khareef monsoon season around Salalah in the southern Dhofar region when it can be much cooler and rainy with lush, green vegetation.
