Kibale Forest National Park

Kibale National Park is Uganda’s premier chimpanzee tracking destination and also supports its greatest primate diversity.

Situated close to the small town of Fort Portal, and overlooked by rolling tea plantations, volcanic crater lakes and the spectacular northern Ruwenzori foothills, Kibale National Park is home to 13 primate species and is thought to have the highest density of chimpanzees anywhere in Africa.

Chimpanzee tracking within the rainforest is the principal highlight, whilst bird and primate walks at the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, as well as night walks in search of galagos and pottos at Kanyanchu, are great attractions for the wildlife enthusiast.

Other than the chimpanzees there are also red colobus, black & white colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys and grey-cheeked mangabeys resident in the forest. Larger mammals such as duiker, bushbuck, civet and buffalo also live here, as do a remarkable number of birds.
