Gibbs Farm

Location: Located a few kilometres from the village of Karatu, at the entrance to the Ngorongoro Highlands, midway between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Rooms: The 17 new Farm Cottages are set in the colourful gardens and are comfortably furnished with wooden floors, hand crafted furniture, two queen sized beds, indoor & outdoor showers, a fireplace and a private verandah.

Facilities: The main lodge (in the old farmhouse) consists of a sitting room, reading room, dining room, bar and gift shop. The old colonial farmhouse still has the character of a well-cared for private house with roaring fires and friendly service, and you wake up to fresh coffee, a multitude of flowers and breathtaking views. There is also a small spa for massage treatments.

Activities: Bird watching, coffee roasting, farm & forest walks, visiting neighboring villages, cycling safaris.

Children: Children of all ages are welcome.

Our Opinion: Established in the early 1920’s as a coffee farm, Gibb’s Farm has retained the charm and style of that era. The lodge commands spectacular views of the surrounding farmlands, and the forested slopes to the rear of the property are home to an abundance of wildlife, including elephant and leopard. The fruit, vegetable and flower gardens now cover 10 acres and everything is grown organically using only natural fertiliser from the farm.  The lodge offers a wide range of activities ranging from mountain biking to local walks to nearby elephant caves & waterfalls.
