Location: Rufiji River Camp boasts a wonderful location on the banks of the Rufiji River, at a point where there is a constant flow of animals coming down to drink. The waters in front of camp are usually full of hippos, as well as groups of crocodiles that laze in the sun on the sandbanks.
Rooms: 11 individual classic guest tents, plus 3 family suites, all well-spaced along the river bank. The family suites consist of two spacious tents joined by a stylish bathroom, all pitched beneath thatched roofs with an outdoor wooden deck and private plunge pool.
Facilities: The camp’s restaurant and bar areas also have great views over the river. It is possible to enjoy al fresco dining under the stars, private dinners along the river bank or an end of the evening coffee sipped from the depth of a sofa in the upper level coffee lounge. The shaded swimming pool is an ideal way to cool off between safari activities.
Activities: Game activities include game drives in open 4×4 vehicles, guided bush walks and explorations by boat along the banks of the Rufiji River.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome.
Our Opinion: Rufiji River Camp is a very good base for safaris within the Selous Game Reserve and boasts a fantastic location on a promontory on the river bank. The camp combines makuti palm roofs with Selous-sourced paving stones and farmed hard woods to create comfortable accommodation; the Family Suites are especially well suited for parents and children wishing to sleep under the same roof.
