Lake MburoNational Park is a compact gem, situated in south-west Uganda between Kampala and Bwindi. It is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah national parks, but home to more than 300 bird species, as well as zebra, eland, buffalo, oribi, Defassa waterbuck, leopard, hippo, hyena, topi and reedbuck. The park is also home to Uganda’s only population of impala.
Together with 13 other lakes in the region, Lake Mburo forms part of a 50km long wetland system and five of these lakes lie within the park’s borders. Once covered by open savannah, Lake Mburo National Park now contains much woodland since there are no elephants to tame the vegetation. In the western part of the park, the savannah is interspersed with rocky ridges and forested gorges, while the lakes are home to patches of papyrus swamp and narrow bands of lush riparian woodland.
Often treated as just a stopover, Lake Mburo justifies a longer safari, especially given the diverse range of game activities on offer – day & night game drives, bush walks amongst very relaxed game, boat safaris on the lake and horse riding.
A visa is required for Uganda and it is required for all visitors to carry a Yellow Fever certificate (regardless where they have travelled from)
