Santa Cruz & The Jesuit Missions

The vast eastern lowlands of Bolivia are an area hugely rich in natural resources and with national parks with a greater variety of plants and wildlife than almost anywhere else on earth.

Why visit Santa Cruz & The Jesuit Missions ?

• Visit the delightful 18th Century wooden church of San Javier mission
• Contemplate the many ornately painted buildings of Concepcion
• Enjoy the beautiful frescoes on the facade of the church of San Miguel
• Learn about the fascinating history of the Jesuits
• Watch the modern-day craftsmen as they restore the rich heritage

The capital of this region, Santa Cruz, is the gateway to one of the least explored and most fascinating parts of Bolivia, an area very different in its population and climate to the highlands. To the northeast of Santa Cruz lie the Jesuit Missions, a number of sleepy little towns each of which have beautiful Jesuit churches. These UNESCO designated churches were built and decorated by hugely skilled craftsmen and boast some of the country’s finest examples of religious art.
